Cyclone Hockey Recruiting Information Cyclone Hockey is entering its 42nd year of organized hockey at Iowa State University. Under the direction of Head Coach & General Manager, Dr. Alan Murdoch, the Cyclone Hockey team is a perennial power in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Iowa State, as an academic institution, has eight different colleges and close to 100 majors to choose from. Being a member of the Cyclone Hockey team, as well as an academically oriented student at Iowa State, will offer many opportunities over the course of a four year academic plan. According to U.S. News & World Reports, Iowa State ranks in the top 25% of public national universities. Another highlight at Iowa State is its' vast Learning Community program where students can be grouped according to majors and areas of interest to help with the demanding schedules and academics. As a program, Cyclone Hockey recruits players who are academically oriented and who wish to play the best hockey of their lives. Cyclone Hockey fields two teams within the ACHA, one in Division 1 and one in Division 3. The Division 1 team proudly plays in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) along with member teams; University of Illinois, Kent State University, Lindenwood University, Ohio University, Robert Morris University, and Indiana University. From this league, the past three National Champions have been crowned in Illinois (2008), and Lindenwood (2009, 2010), where the Cyclones lost to Lindenwood 2-0 in the 2010 Finals. The Division 3 team proudly plays in the North Central Collegiate Hockey Association (NCCHA) along with member teams; Creighton University, Dordt College, University of Nebraska, South Dakota State University, University of South Dakota, US Air Force Academy, Colorado College, Mesa State University, and University of Wyoming. In 2010, the Cyclone Hockey D3 team was one goal away from qualifying for the D3 National Tournament and won the NCCHA year end tournament over Nebraska in thrilling fashion.
